Following his Los Angeles exhibition last May, Charles Munka presents a series of new canvases this week in Shanghai, China. The title of the exhibition is, Octagon.
Octagon is an eight canvas display, fusing styles from his Double Knock Out exhibition in Los Angeles and his previous live show paintings. This work was largely inspired by the concepts of 'Ba gua diagrams'. The Ba gua are eight diagrams used in Taoist cosmology to represent the fundamental principles of reality, seen as a range of eight interrelated concepts. Each consists of three lines, each line either "broken" or "unbroken," representing yin or yang, respectively.
